So when I was about 22 I wanted to start my own business. I've always been a great cook (apparently I inherited it from several great cooks in my family) and people have always raved about the food I made. So naturally I wanted to do something with my talents. But of course I could not afford to open up my own restaurant, and the thing that came to mind was: why not get a food truck? But I was young and broke (I still am... broke that is NOT young) and long story short although I went through all the planning, research and even applied for a license. I wasn’t able to pull it off  :( But it always stayed in the attic space of my mind and I always hoped to really make it happen someday. So now that I have bored you all to death with my story. You will come to understand my total and complete obsession with the recent food truck craze that has hit our city! I will admit that it is partly jealousy that these suckers stole MY idea of gourmet food on a truck... Ughhh!! But mostly I love food as all you do, and love all the tasty options. Go and check some out for yourselves and tell me how you like them.  And you can start this Cinco de Mayo when the DC Food Truck Association is holding Curbside Cookoff: Trucko De Mayo at RFK stadium!  Open from 11:30am-9pm in lot #3 (closest to the Metro station), this Curbside Cookoff features free admission, free parking, live music, two bars, and more than 40 food trucks.

Also here is the best way to find them: http://foodtruckfiesta.com/

Pretzel Bread

So this is the $2 Pretzel Bread from District Commons and I am sure that by now everyone has eaten there (if have not YOU are crazy! And you should go NOW!) But have you tried this dam pretzel???? OK... I hate pretzel bread I hate how it SO dam chewy and thick and feels like you ate a brick in your belly. Its just gross to me! But this thing is just crunchy on the outside and light an fluffy on the inside like you wouldn't believe! I suggest you go and get some! Oh and everything else we ordered was Yummy! ~_~

I have been way to sick to cook lately (stupid cold) So I had to explore some take out options. And by far Boston Market was one of my favs. Ok... let me explain. Yes some of their things taste artificial (such as the mac & cheese ). But have you ever had their spinach, sweet potatoes, squash casserole or their spinach oh and did I mention their spinach???  I found this simple recipe if you want to make it at home. But if you sick or lazy you can just go and pick some up from Boston Market.
Creamed Spinach
  • 1 cream celery soup; (10 - ounces)
  • 1 Tbsp Flour
  • 1 (14-oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 Tbsp Butter; margarine or canola
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic salt
  • Salt and pepper
  • 20 oz Frozen cooked chopped spinach drained
  • 1 small Onion, diced
In a saucepan, on medium heat, stir together with wire whisk soup, flour, butter, garlic salt, salt and pepper until smooth and piping hot. Combine with spinach and onion.

SOOO disappointed!  At my house we eat crabs all year round at least once a week. Yesterday I decided to get some from the Wharf and steam them at home. I have one of those huge steam pots that holds almost a whole bushel. Well let me tell you that... that will be the absolute last time I buy them from there again they where aw full.  So if anyone  could help with where to buy crabs in DC please weigh in! PS :I know they looked good but thrust me... blugh!!
